Piccadilly Symphony Orchestra
is a brand new organisation that has been set up to give aspiring professional musicians the opportunity to play a wide range of repertoire in a high quality ensemble, helping to bridge the gap between a player’s studies and professional orchestras. We are passionate about producing high quality, ambitious concerts that will contribute to the cultural scene in Manchester.

PSO is dedicated to professional and personal development on every level, promoting excellence and progression; from the players to the orchestra management, right the through to the schools and community outreach groups.

PSO aims to broaden a players orchestral experience and give them the opportunity to develop as musicians through playing in a professional orchestral environment, as well as opportunities to assist on the outreach programme, developing their work-shopping and teaching skills.

PSO is passionate about music education and an integral part of the orchestra is the outreach programme and relationship with Manchester Communications Academy, based in the Harpurhey Area of Manchester.

PSO is not just another Orchestra; one of our main aims is to engage new audiences and take orchestral music out of the city centre concert halls and bring it into the community.   Our Inaugural concert was at Manchester Communication Academy in Harpurhey. The area is in the top 4% of disadvantaged communities in the UK, having higher than average amount of: unemployment, people without English and Maths qualifications, people living below the poverty line and crime rates. We have planned to play one concert per season in Harpurhey and we are in the process of setting up an extensive outreach programme; in order to establish music at the heart of their community and use engagement with the arts a vehicle to promote social change and the idea that music can have a positive, life changing impact on individuals and communities alike.
